Case study
Together with Närpes Grönsaker, a Finnish vegetable co-operative, Metsä Board commissioned a study to compare cherry tomato packages made of paperboard with packaging made of plastic (RPET).
Attention!
The impact on the climate of packaging is less than 1% of the impact of cultivating and packing cherry tomatoes.
Packaging
The study found that the paperboard cartons preserved the cherry tomatoes at least as well as the plastic packaging.
The effect on the climate of the plastic (recycled PET) container was six times higher than that of an average paperboard carton.
